“Breath of Life” Awareness and Educational Event
Conduct SGT Charles A. Fricke VFW Post 805 “Breath of Life” Awareness and Educational Event on 6 May 2023. This event was recommended by our Service Officer — Ms. Sandy Doucette — and approved by the larger Post 805 membership by formal vote. The event will be conducted in her honor, given her long service to our Post and her failing health due to toxic exposure. The Post will widely advertise the event within the community, provide food/snacks and some entertainment — while broadly featuring and providing various educational information on lung conditions and the effects of toxic exposure — as well as the work the VFW and VA are doing to address the associated afflictions (PACT ACT, etc.).

Cooking with a veteran at the National Home
One of the most significant problems veterans face today is food insecurity. Over the years, the VFW has worked with many organizations to help combat this issue by bringing food and assistance to the local communities where VFW Posts can be found. During the height of the pandemic, VFW member and chef Dave Rogers brought that idea to an online cooking program called @cookingwithaveteran. During a trip to the VFW National Home (@vfwnationalhome), Rogers, along with the staff of the National Home, members of the TN VFW (@vfw.tn), and TN M.O.C. developed a program to help families at the National Home learn cooking skills, shopping tips and be provided with home-cooked meals for the 42 families staying at the National Home.
At the same time, VFW 12206 members will be cleaning headstones at the Stones River Battlefield Cemetery in our adopted section (Q).

We will have the people who can not do labor visit shut-ins, the people who are home bounds write cards to the people in the nursing home and hospitals, and we are going to have some at the cemetery to clean and fix headstones. Others will help with chores and things for people who need them. We are also joining up with habitat for humanity to get a list of needs, and they are willing to help us get supplies to make everything possible. The mayor and council are glad to be part of it along with the chamber, So we have a lot of support to make this happen
