Update the Map of Veterans Wreath Placement
We are Post 5869 in Hanford and we feel no Veteran should be forgotten especially if their families have left the area and are no longer here to honor them.
At previous Veterans Day events, volunteers were placing wreaths on the graves of Veterans, but because many Veterans have personalized markers instead of the bronze markers, volunteers didn’t know to leave a wreath. The cemetery also puts a marker by the graves of veterans but they also missed some. In order to help solve this problem, I will make a map of one of three cemeteries, I am aiming to complete this before July.

Cooking with a Veteran at the National Home
We are holding a Day of Service event to provide a meal for veterans. Our event is to help fight one of the most significant problems veterans face today – food insecurity. Over the years, the VFW has worked with many organizations to help combat this issue by bringing food and assistance to the local communities where VFW Posts can be found.
During the height of the pandemic, VFW member and chef Dave Rogers brought that idea to an online cooking program called @cookingwithaveteran. During a trip to the VFW National Home (@vfwnationalhome), Rogers, along with the staff of the National Home, members of the TN VFW (@vfw.tn), and TN M.O.C. developed a program to help families at the National Home learn cooking skills, shopping tips and be provided with home cooked meals for the 42 families staying at the National Home.
At the same time, our VFW 12206 members will be cleaning headstones at the Stones River Battlefield Cemetery in our adopted section (Q).

Honor Our Fallen Heroes
In December 2022 with Wreaths Across America, we discovered that over 1000 graves of American veterans presently lay unknown at Lakeview Cemetery. Among the veteran graves that were found several were covered with debris. This is unacceptable to us and together with community service groups and historic societies from throughout the region we have been busy archiving list of names to be charted into a new map for future generations. However, these grounds are huge and take considerable resources for the cemetery to upkeep.
Lakeview is the final resting place of many heroes of Asian American and Pacific Island Decent to include AAPI military veterans of both World Wars to present. Among them Bruce Lee, 3 presidents, and veterans as far back as the civil war have been put to rest here. Not only is it the oldest cemetery in Seattle dating back to 1869, but even in times when society was separated all races and religions are found buried here.
In traditional culture, the ChingMing Holiday is a time where ancestors are honored and given offerings of flowers. It is an annual “tomb sweeping” season. Ahead of Memorial Day 2023 come join our service to pay homage in Honor of Our Fallen Heroes, whom include many Asian American and Pacific Islander WW2 Gold Medal Recipients.
