‘I’m Able to Keep Showing Up’

It was important to Air Force veteran Jennifer Korecki to stay connected to the military community after transitioning back to civilian life. But it was not always easy, at least not on her own.   

“My service dog Ben plays a huge role in helping me stay engaged,” she said. “He gives me the confidence, calm, strength and stability I need to be active in my community.”

Among other things, Korecki participates in the VFW Buddy Poppy Drive, Boots on the Ground program and the American Valor Foundation Chris Kyle Memorial Benefit. She is also a member of VFW Post 11406 in Jacksonville, Florida, a Wounded Warrior Project alumnus and a K9s for Warriors ambassador.  

When asked why Korecki is Still Serving in so many ways, she said, “Because I believe showing up matters. Being present at these events and in these communities is my way of continuing to serve, honoring those who’ve worn the uniform, supporting those who still do, and staying connected to a purpose bigger than myself.”

With Ben by her side, Korecki said, “I’m reminded daily that I’m not alone, and I’m able to do what matters most — keep showing up.”
