‘It’s An Honor to Help People’

VFW Life member and Department of Texas District 28 Commander John Jowers is Still Serving his community with help from his service dog, Sunny.

After serving in Afghanistan, Jowers developed Post Traumatic Stress. He credits Sunny for his ability to help fellow veterans today. With Sunny by his side, Jowers attends events in support of his local community. Jowers uses these experiences to share support and resources with other service members.

“I want to let veterans know that the VFW offers them the camaraderie we all miss after the military, as well as help with VA benefits and opportunities to volunteer and get involved in our community,” he said.

Jowers still serves with Sunny because he wants to pay it forward after so many people helped him work through his own struggles.

“It’s an honor to be able to help people, and Sunny gave me the chance to do that again,” he said.
