Post of the Month Launches to Showcase how Posts are #StillServing

VFW Post 2913 #StillServing Post of the Month

The VFW is proud to honor all veterans who are #StillServing, and it’s especially meaningful to see the ways Posts have provided much needed assistance throughout this year. To highlight the incredible work being done, a new Post of the Month feature is launching to focus attention on VFW Posts answering the call of duty.

The first Post of the Month is VFW Post 2913 in Patchogue, New York. As the COVID-19 crisis hit New York City, the Post mobilized and distributed 3,000 masks to veterans across Long Island. They also partnered with local organizations to collect and distribute food to those in need, visited 15 schools virtually to connect veterans with students and live-streamed events to honor veterans to maintain both valued programs and safety.

One important way the Post continued to serve was by taking their daily Coffee with a Veteran from in-person meetings to Zoom. For two years, the event gave veterans a way to tell their stories and connect with citizens in the community. The Post knew it needed to keep the conversations going to ensure no one felt isolated or alone during the pandemic. Moving to Zoom allowed them to not only bring together people in Patchogue online, but they drew participation from eight other states.

VFW Post 2913 is just one example of members going above and beyond to care for their community and fellow veterans. Stories of veterans stepping up to help others have poured in month after month. In addition to selecting a Post of the Month, the VFW is now capturing some of these outstanding efforts in a new blog.

At the beginning of 2020, the VFW set out to shine a spotlight on how veterans are making a difference in their communities with #StillServing. As the year unfolded, the campaign took on even deeper importance. America’s veterans are giving their communities hope and inspiring others to serve. If you have a #StillServing story to tell and haven’t submitted it yet, please share it today.

To be considered for a Post of the Month feature in the coming months, the VFW encourages Posts across the country and around the world to:

  • Submit their #StillServing story.
  • Share on social media using #StillServing.
  • Describe the Post’s community involvement during the duration of the #StillServing campaign (February 2020 to present).
  • Be verified in good standing with recorded community service hours.
