Still Serving Enters a New Era

The call to serve doesn’t end when military service does. This is why the VFW launched Still Serving — to bring more attention to the many ways America’s veterans continue to serve their communities after leaving active duty.

As more veterans share how they are Still Serving, others have been inspired to do the same. Since 2020, Still Serving has amplified volunteer efforts and camaraderie among returned defenders. Today, the stage is set for this initiative to go even bigger.

We are proud to announce VFW Day of Service — a nationwide day of service projects led by veterans in partnership with other organizations and civic groups in their communities — and we hope you will join us.

The inaugural VFW Day of Service kicks off the first Saturday of May — May 7, 2022— marking the start of veteran-led service projects taking place in May. VFW posts and individual veterans are encouraged to plan and participate in service events in their communities throughout the month.

We have seen the positive effects Still Serving has had on communities across the country and want to build on that progress. VFW Day of Service will introduce the VFW to new members and further amplify the work of veterans. And through new partnerships, it will help strengthen and unite communities everywhere.

We look forward to recognizing the continued service of America’s veterans and introducing their efforts to an even larger audience.
