How are you Still Serving?

Each year on the 4th of July I put together a team of four community veterans who participate in the city of North Myrtle Beach SC, “Salute to America”. We carry flags on the North Myrtle Beach beaches. 80 volunteers, in teams of four, carry the American, South Carolina, POW-MIA and Purple Heart flags the entire 8 miles of North Myrtle Beach beaches. Each team carry’s for a 6 to 8 block segment. This event is organized by members of American Legion Post 186 in Little River. SC. This year my team laid claim to the “oldest team” on the beach with a combined age of 309 years. Me leading the way at 80, then 77, 76, 76

Why do you do it?

I have done this for 12 years and it is how I have planned my 4th of July for all those years. It is an amazing event to see and even more amazing to be a part of. The cheers of support from the thousands of beach goers is a sight that has to be experienced.
