Carl and his wife owned and operated a John Deere Agriculture dealership in their hometown of Oskaloosa, Iowa for 40 years and used the business to help the community.
Carl has served on the Oskaloosa School Board of Directors for over 26 years and worked to insure the best education possible for the young people.
Carl was also a charter member of the Mahaska Community Recreation Foundation in 1997 and has served as Facilities Chairman since then. The recreation complex has grown to over 225 acres and includes a 5 diamond softball complex, 2 Babe Ruth fields, a College Regulation Soccer Stadium (reputed as the best in the Midwest), a turf football stadium with track and a 4 story press box/ concession stand, and 30 acres of soccer grass for practice and competition. Carl has volunteered 1000’s of hours of time with the equipment to do the work on the complex as well as a 14-mile concrete multi-purpose trail that circles Oskaloosa. These projects were all privately funded and also the work done by volunteers.
Carl has taught teen Sunday School for many years and has been a mentor to many young people.
Why do you do it?
Carl serves the community to give young people a better future and to give young people good opportunities to improve themselves.
