Where did you serve and what did you do?

Went into the Army in 1967 after graduating from Brainerd High School. Served in Vietnam in 1968-1969 as a sergeant E5 with 2/17 Cavalry, 101st Airborne. On return to the United States, Dave was assigned to Co. B (Ranger) 75th Infantry.

How are you Still Serving?

Dave Meyer has been an active member of Post 1647 in Brainerd, MN, since 2005. He was Brainerd VFW Post Commander in 2008 – 2009 and continues to serve as Commander of the Crow Wing County Disabled American Veterans. Dave received the Community Member of the Month Award in Brainerd in July 2019 and received the Service Above Self Award at Brainerd Rotary in September 2023. Dave continues to help veterans through volunteerism. He is credited with over 8,000 hours of volunteer service plus 100,000 miles of driving veterans to medical appointments along with untold hours as the coordinator of the Brainerd Honor Guard at funerals and parades. Dave arranges bus rides for veterans to the yearly Veterans on the Hill event in St. Paul He also coached Minnesota Special Olympics teams and Junior Achievement at Harrison Elementary School in Brainerd. Dave can be found at the Brainerd VFW every day helping and answering questions. He is also a familiar face at the Crow Wing County Veteran Service Office helping veterans.
