Where did you serve and what did you do?
Navy, 1976 to 1999. Aviation support equipment technician. 3 aircraft carriers, 2 amphibs.
How are you #StillServing?
Retired and my daughter wanted to be a girl scout. They needed a cookie dad (or mom). I took over as troop leader for 2 years. My youngest son wanted to be a cub scout. I started as an assistant den leader, worked my way up to cubmaster and committee chairman. I got recruited to be a unit commissioner, helping troops and packs deliver a quality program for 11 years.
Now I’m the eagle board of review chairman. At the post, I started as the adjutant, went to trustee, and am currently the quartermaster and member of the color guard.
I run the VFW contribution to the local food bank drives.
Why do you do it?
My wife said, “You’ll do anything to stay in uniform.” After my children aged out, I stayed around since the program really needed leaders for more than 5-6 years. I really like how the programs bring families closer together (family campouts, cub scout activities and scout merit badges).
