Where did you serve and what did you do?
U. S. Army 1966–1968. Served in Vietnam at USARV Headquarters at Long Binh Post in an admin position from 8/1/67 to 8/1/68.
How are you #StillServing?
I am a past Post Commander of Camerado Post 10165, VFW and subsequently the Adjutant of the post for the last 19 years. I also volunteer as a building manager at the El Dorado County Veterans Memorial Building where five veteran organizations and 22 community clubs and organizations meet. I do the scheduling for all these groups and also serve as the secretary of the Veterans Memorial Building Council.
I am a member of the combined veterans’ organizations Honor Guard rifle team and I’m also the “flag guy” at the Veterans Memorial Building. I take in retired flags, tri-fold them and bundle them in tens and then take them to a local mortuary for retirement by fire in their crematorium when my storage gets full.
Why do you do it?
I had a relatively easy tour in Vietnam compared to so many veterans and now have the time and resources to give back a little bit to the community, especially those who had a lot harder time, physically and mentally, in their overseas service than I did.
