Where did you serve and what did you do?
I served on the USS Hawkbill SSN 666. I was a Submarine Warfare Qualified Machinist Mate serving in the Auxiliary Division (A Gang) from 1980-1984.
How are you #StillServing?
As a faculty member and administrator at the University of Mount Olive, I served as director of several campuses that reach out to adults and in particular Veterans and active duty at Seymour Johnson AFB in Goldsboro, NC. While doing this I serve on the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce of Wayne County and part of the Friends of Seymour Johnson AFB. I also serve on job creation boards for the Wayne County Development Alliance seeking to find and create jobs for Veterans and active-duty spouses. I also serve in the Three Eagles Rotary Club that was founded by SJAFB members.
Why do you do it?
I do the extra things that aren’t specifically job related because I care about the Veterans. I earned an Associates’s Degree while on active duty serving on a Submarine and went on to earn a doctorate in Adult Education from Penn State; in part, because I wanted to serve adults and military members to help make lives better through education.
