How are you Still Serving?

Become a government contractor at Keesler, AFB, MS right after retiring. Worked the same flight line that I started on in 1981. Worked C-21 Lear jets and WC-130s as aircraft mechanic. Katrina closed that contract down and I moved back and forth to Wheeler AAF, HI for the next 3 years still working aircraft and learned the Army life working CH-47s. After that contract ended I moved back to Mississippi to work with Northrop Grumman building MQ-8 Fire scout unmanned helicopters for U. S. Navy. Learned a little Navy life there. Decided to move back to Alaska and worked the civilian sector for 10 years. Another government contract position fell in my lap 6 years ago and I continue to work JBER, AK in the Transient Alert position on the flight. We handle every transient aircraft that comes through our base. We take care of the troops that past through headed either home or on a mission. We’ve handle everything from training mission to Presidential aircraft. We are frontline in planning visits from foreign military units to USAF Thunderbirds and USN Blue Angels during. No aircraft parks on our ramps with the aid of our Follow Me trucks. There are eight retired veterans in our shop and we all pride ourselves in Still Serving.

Why do you do it?

It’s a fun job that takes pride and organizational skills. Best job I’ve ever had. I enjoy interacting with as many crews as I can.
