Where did you serve and what did you do?
When the 4th infantry division was rebuilt and brought to fighting strength at the beginning of 1966, I was drafted. We trained for about 9 months, and shipped to Vietnam, on the troop ship USNS Gordon. I was trained as a 90MM recoilless gunner, to which proved too bulky for the jungle we searched, so I was reassigned as a platoon leader RTO, a job I held until my DEROS.
How are you #StillServing?
I serve in the appointed position of Post Service Officer. I have helped many veterans get the benefits they earned and deserved. By doing this, I feel I have greatly improved the quality of their post-service life!
Why do you do it?
After applying and receiving my benefits, I realized that knowing how it’s done, I could help others in their quest. I also had a family member commit suicide, and knowing what is left behind, I knew maybe I could help save a life. One will never know, but I truly believe I have saved a few!
