Where did you serve and what did you do?
US Army/Yongsan (Seoul) Korea – 19th AG Postal Operations. I worked at the main post office that processed all incoming mail for the AFKN as well as outgoing. Worked with CID whenever there was potential black marketing being processed through the USPS and participated in the Joint – Forces Training with ROK Army to assist in training basic soldering as well as postal skills.

My dog, Princess Leia, was my dad’s dog. She lived at my house, but visited my dad (a US Navy Korean War Veteran) and other residents (some also veterans) at his assisted living. She is an amazing dog who ensures everyone gets a visit and a face lick before we leave. She greets everyone with a wiggle butt and whenever she is handled by the residents, she takes it like a champ and never nips. Even though my dad passed, I intend to continue to take Leia to visit the residents at my dad’s assisted living to make her daily rounds with everyone (once the COVID restrictions are fully lifted). We have passed by outside the window and waved to the residents that are able to come to it, but it is not the same to get that happy and excited greeting in person that Leia has perfected!
Why do you do it?
I love to see people light up on an otherwise dull day. I know a lot of people don’t always get visitors, like my dad did, so we shared the love with all. I really enjoyed talking to the other residents and hearing their stories. There are some really incredible people, if you just take a moment to talk to them. Leia makes that possible.
