Where did you serve and what did you do?
I have served in the Oregon Army National Guard since 2011 and continue my service today. I have done one tour in Kabul, Afghanistan in 2014-2015 providing security on ECP’s and personal security details. I am currently serving a short domestic deployment in Washington, DC assisting Capital Police to secure and protect our nation’s capital.
How are you #StillServing?
Outside of my service in the National Guard, I volunteer my time with a nonprofit called the Suddenly Sleepy as an activities director and sponsored athlete, as well as my old high school assisting coaching their swim and wrestling programs.
I have also taken leadership opportunities in my community as a precinct committee person for the county, vice-chair for my house district, and a few other committees. I am currently a candidate for the board of directors of my local parks and recreation district and hope for the opportunity to continue to serve my community.
Why do you do it?
I love the opportunity to teach and learn from those in my community. I also enjoy solving difficult problems and challenging myself. I want to use the knowledge and skills I have to ensure that no one is left behind and provide resources to those who need them most.
As a child, I had a lot of support from teachers, coaches and community members and I personally realize the impact that their time and resources can have on someone’s life. I hope the volunteer work I do strengthens the community and promotes a healthier, safer environment for everyone to enjoy.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
