Where did you serve and what did you do?

I served in TX, MS, KY, CO, CA, FL, HI and GA stateside, and W. Germany, Thailand, and Saudi Arabia overseas. During my overseas deployments, I was in an Intelligence Organization working with American Embassies: I visited 65 different nations, six Continents, and I’ve been in all five Oceans. I began my career as an Administrative Specialist; Ground Radar Technician; two Intelligence Fields; NCO Academy Instructor; and finally First Sergeant.

How are you Still Serving?

Today, I am active in five different veteran’s groups: VFW as Post 5290Sr Vice Commander, American Legion Post 77 as Jr Vice Commander, DAV Chapter 55 as Treasurer, AmVets Post 44 as Assistant Provost, and Georgia Vietnam Veterans Alliance Chapter 5. I also serve as an Ordained Minister, I serve as Assistant Chaplain in all five organizations. At every turn, whenever I encounter a fellow veteran, I first thank them for their service and then ask if they belong to any of these organizations. Additionally, I query them about their potential disabilities and steer them to our Service Officer.

Why do you do it?

I love my fellow veterans, and I want to ensure they are receiving all the benefits available to them. It is amazing to me the number of veterans that are not in the VA system, and even more amazing as to the number the VA has turned away with any variety of excuses as to why a veteran is not eligible for enrollment
