John
Where did you serve and what did you do?
I served aboard USS Wasp (LHD-1) as an (ABH) Aviation Boatswain’s Mate – Aircraft Handling, then as an (ASTAC) Anti-Submarine Warfare/Anti-Surface Warfare Tactical Air Controller (OS) Operations Specialist.
How are you Still Serving?
I work with Special-Needs families and try to improve lives. I’m serving as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) working as a certified healthcare paraprofessional who delivers Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy directly to clients. In this role, I work under the direct, close supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to help individuals—predominantly children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)—build life skills and reduce challenging behaviors. Core Responsibilities: Implement Behavior Plans: Deliver the specific, individualized intervention protocols designed by your supervising BCBA. Skill Acquisition: Teach clients crucial daily living, communication, social, and academic skills through play and structured activities. Behavior Reduction: Apply safe, approved techniques to decrease harmful or disruptive behaviors like tantrums or self-injury. Data Collection: Track and record client behaviors in real time during every single session to measure clinical progress. Caregiver Coordination: Work with parents and teachers to help the client transfer their new skills to home and school environments. I also do Volunteer Work with different organizations, including the VFV, American Legion, Team Rubicon, USO, Mercy Chef, CRC, Elks Lodge, CEF, Project Sanctuary, Weekend to Remember (Family Life), and other local organizations.
Why do you do it?
I do what I do because of GOD and my Family. I care and have a BIG Heart to help others.
