Where did you serve and what did you do?
I served two years after basic training at Lackland and 12 weeks of weather school. I also spent 8 weeks of Rawinsonde school at Chanute AFB at Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo, Texas where we supported the AEC flying balloons to the altitude of 150,000 ft to sample the atmosphere for radiation! I was then transferred to Flegerhorst Kassern in Hanau, Germany where I supported the Mohawks flying the DMZ in Europe! I was discharged four years to the date of entry to the AF!! I was supposed to leave a week earlier, but planes were grounded due to fog!
How are you #StillServing?
We are members of NAMI and have attended the national convention in San Antonio and New Orleans learning to provide support for those with mental illness! I was 40 % disabled when I left the AF but with therapy, it was reduced to 10%. So I also joined a lifetime membership with the DAV.
Why do you do it?
I have a son who is disabled with mental illness and there are many who leave the military with mental illness!! We need to erase the stigma of mental illness from our society!!
