Where did you serve and what did you do?
A 26 year Navy veteran who earned my eligibility directly supporting Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom. Retiring as a Senior Chief Electronics Technician. I led some of the most amazing Sailors. Supporting their efforts to maintain communications, radar and navigation equipment, My Sailors ensured safe navigation, on time communications and accurate threat assessments to the ship, air wing and battle group.
How are you #StillServing?
One of my biggest passions is dogs. After I retired, I felt adrift in the transition from active duty to no duty. Our local animal rescue, Another Chance RFT (Rescue, Foster, Transport) needed assistance with transporting dogs from our local high kill shelter to rescues who would help the pups find their furever homes. Since late 2016, I have transported over 50 dogs to help them find their family. I also, occasionally, will foster a dog who is not doing well in the shelter while awaiting transport.
Why do you do it?
Dogs were a big part of my life growing up until the family was too busy to be a good home for a dog. My first dog after I joined the Navy was a German Shepherd who needed rescuing while I was stationed in Guam in 1997. Murphy was the beginning of many shelter dogs to live with me and my family. Currently living on four acres in South Texas, we have six dogs, all rescues, who have the best life. I still serve by getting dogs who had bad owners to loving families.
