Where did you serve and what did you do?
I served a total of 27 years in the Air Force, the last 12 years as a squadron first sergeant at McGuire AFB, N.J. I retired an E 8 in 2004.
How are you #StillServing?
For the past 2 years, I’ve been doing a monthly collection of food, clothing for our homeless veterans’ shelter for an average of 75 veterans. I also obtained a badly needed bus stop for them and a flag pole so they could proudly fly our flag. On Christmas Eve, I delivered 125 hot meals to the shelter and to the family unit. I raised the money ($1,000) to pay for the meals just in my community which has supported my effort the entire two years. I couldn’t do it without them.
Why do you do it?
I consider it an honor to be able to help these people and I truly believe that if things would have gone differently for me, I could be one of the veterans now living in the shelter. These men raised their hands, took an oath to defend our country, even with their lives if needed, that’s good enough for me.
