For the past year, Post 3981 has accomplished the following with the extraordinary support of Auxiliary 3981:
Hosted food and hygiene products drive in May 2020 and distributed food and personal hygiene products to more than 200 veterans and their family members during the summer months of 2020.
Distributed holiday food boxes to more than 100 veteran families during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season. Delivered more than 800 hot meals to veterans and their families since the pandemic and have funding to deliver 50 hot meals each month for the next 12 months. Provided household furniture, home supplies and food to Veterans and their families who are transitioning from homeless status to more stable housing.
Provided clothing, meals, laptops and transportation assistance to unemployed veterans to help gain permanent jobs. Visited with countless Veterans in the community and surrounding rural areas to ensure they are remembered and to check on the welfare and current needs.
Provide VA Community Living Centers in Grand Junction and Rifle, Colorado with either catered meals or veteran appreciation packages. Have worked with community partners to obtain funding to support veterans in our community in excess of $40,000.
Established better relationships during the past year with SVA at Colorado Mesa University and deliver snacks to their Student Veterans Lounge on a monthly basis and have recruited multiple student vets to join the VFW.
Recycled multiple wheelchairs for veteran family members in the community. Several members volunteer at the local VA hospital in Grand Junction.
Western Slope VFW Post 3981 and Auxiliary 3981 are still serving our veterans!
Why do you do it?
Our Post wants to ensure that our fellow veterans are appreciated and remembered throughout the year. We are sincere in our belief that we “honor the dead by helping the living.”
