Where did you serve and what did you do?
I was in the US Air Force for 4 years as Security Forces.
How are you #StillServing?
I have spent the last 8 years of my post-military life serving through a nonprofit called Team Rubicon. I have been able to deploy across the globe and locally to help communities impacted by natural disasters. I have helped run a medical clinic in a refugee camp, deployed medical personnel to Nepal after a deadly earthquake, gutted homes destroyed by floods and rebuilt homes after the disaster occurred.
While getting dirty in service has been rewarding, I’ve put my boots out to dry and stepped into the local political arena, and am now running to serve my community through smart policy and servant leadership.
Why do you do it?
Service is in my blood. It started with my mother taking me to inner-city schools where she taught, then passing out food to the homeless on the streets as a teen. It shifted to military service to a social worker for low-income disabled people.
I never knew any other life. My parents served their communities as a social worker and a teacher. They taught me to continue to give back and help others. I kept that mindset throughout my life.
I don’t know what a life without service would be, it would not be fulfilling. It would be void of purpose. Service is just who I am.
