Where did you serve and what did you do?
VFW Post 2772 and Veterans of the American Legion and members of our community have banded together to serve free smoked meat to the people of our community each Sunday.
How are you #StillServing?
VFW Post 2772, Veterans of the American Legion and members of our community have banded together to serve free smoked meat to the people of our community each Sunday. Even though our VFW is closed, we still have access to the parking lot. We are smoking meat throughout the week and serving it to needy families for free in 1lb baggies in their cars in our parking lot. We hope to continue this effort until we are told to shelter in our homes. We ask for donations only to buy more supplies.
Why do you do it?
Our Sr. Vice Commander, Mo, saw a hunter on Facebook offering free meat to help the community. She reached out to him to offer help, knowing that we had a large smoker and cooking skills. She offered to help clean the meat and smoke and freeze it and offered our parking lot for the delivery point. This is helping the hunter more free time to hunt, and the people who need meat in these trying times the opportunity to get food for their families when none is available in stores.
More volunteers are stepping up to help, from our VFW Auxiliary, the American Legion and members of the public donating meat and supplies, such as smoking wood, aluminum foil and pans, baggies and more! This is our fourth week so far, and we have fed over 200 families through this effort!
