Where did you serve and what did you do?
Appx 40 years of US Army.
How are you #StillServing?
I’m doing bulletins from Veterans that have sent me their DD214’s and a military pic of them. In several states, now w lockdown situations all over the world. This is a time for me to help Veterans with getting their past military in order.
Also, I’m helping with many on Compensation and Pensions. I have several hundreds I’ve helped. Also, I sent out American Flag crosses to ones in CO to work on Christmas stocking for Veterans during this global lockdown. I’ve sent out biblesticks as well to Veterans as some have time to listen to these in our downtime.
I’m also helping with another family in KS as 1 US Navy man died apps 2 decades ago and still no Military Marker on his grave. The funeral home said they will try to get his DD214 or Separation documents. I’ve worked on this for 2 years now and still myself and the only family is a sister in law, I’ve gone directly to courthouse and they couldn’t give me his military information either. So now its in funeral homes hands.
So many things I’m doing daily. Even ordering ribbon racks, dog tags, bulletins, qualification badges so WWII Veterans have what is on their Separation papers. So I’ve been paying for with my retirement as if it were me, I’d want someone to do this for me. The list goes on and on…
I interview Veterans while I give WWII Presentations and bagpipe for them out of state (not now during Covid-19 and could be rest of year) and I made connections while traveling for the newspapers, so yes, lockdown I can do many things! I am here for any honorable Veteran. I’m researching one Veteran who said he was in the Pacific, but his separation papers don’t state anything…but a National Defense Service Medal…so he had to serve overseas and I have made the connection yet.
Why do you do it?
First and foremost, I enjoy it! These Veterans help me out as well. The favor is for both of us. We must stay busy in retirement!
