Where did you serve and what did you do?
Vietnam. I was a truck driver, long haul and short-haul. Delivered supplies, fuel, ammunition to fire support bases, etc.
How are you #StillServing?
I’m a Gold Legacy Life Member. I’ve been post and district service officer for over fourteen years. I visit six different posts regularly, spending a minimum of six hours there filing claims for veterans, spouses & children of veterans. Monthly, I spend 108 hours at these posts, then at home, I’ll make copies and mail one the next day. Just about every year I mail over 500 claims in. This year will be close to 550 or more.
Why do you do it?
I do it because I enjoy it now. Back in 2006 when I first joined the VFW I was handed a bag with a lot of V A forms in it and was told “you are the new SERVICE OFFICER. I had no clue what to do. I attended our mandatory S.O.schools and started learning the forms. My state S.O.is JERRY KAYROUZ he is a great teacher, I admire him he’s so knowledgeable. Thank You Jerry for making me a better service officer.
