Where did you serve and what did you do?
I served with the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vietnam as part of the SOG (studies and Observation Group).
Tell us how your dog is helping you continue #StillServing in your community.
My dog Squeaky first came into my life seven years ago when I rescued her from the streets of East LA, California. However, it was Squeaky who really rescued me that summer day. She’s been a companion and comfort to me ever since and led me to finally break down my wall and finally seek counseling for my PTSD. I’m now in a Veterans group, but Squeaky gives me therapy everyday. This has also led me to reach out and volunteer in my local community, serving Marines ar Camp Pendleton and students at a nearby university.
Why do you do it?
Once the years of walls isolating you begin to break down, you begin to open up and reach out to those around you, both fulfilling their needs for community and in the process your own.
