Where did you serve and what did you do?
Retired USAF Civil Engineer officer. Retired as Major. Served in many locations and capacities in my 20-yr active duty, including Korea, Egypt, Kuwait, Qatar, Iraq, Afghanistan, Honduras. Had positions at base level, MAJCOMs, CENTAF, CE Field support agency (AFCESA) and even a tour with USACE.
How are you #StillServing?
I am currently an associate professor at Motlow State Community College, a community college serving a large area in middle Tennessee. I teach a technical program called Mechatronics, which basically teaches the technology behind industrial automation. Last year I also became the department’s curriculum chair responsible for course development, training, equipment upkeep, textbooks and various aspects of the program. I have been at Motlow now for 8 years.
Why do you do it?
After I retired in 2011, I just really needed a job, and unfortunately, federal budget cuts impacted a position I thought I had at the local AF base. It was mainly a leap of faith to enter the education field. It has been a rewarding experience helping train young and older/non-traditional students for successful careers in various high-tech industries such as automotive, food processing, cosmetics, packaging, etc.
