How are you #StillServing?
I am on the Board of Directors of the Guardian Angel Medical Service Dogs. These dogs are trained for 2 1/2 years to assist veterans and first responders with PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury and mobility challenges. These dogs are awarded free of charge for qualified applicants. Applications can be found at MedicalServiceDogs.org
Why do you do it?
As a veteran who was on the “line” in the Gulf of Tonkin for 11 months, I personally understand the baggage today’s veterans are carrying when they come home. I dedicated my retirement to help these returning vets. The dogs help bring normality to their lives as a civilian. I was awarded “Walker” in June of 2019 and has made a huge difference in my life. She is named after Doctor Mary Walker, who was a surgeon in the Civil War and was the first woman to receive the Medal of Honor.
