Where did you serve and what did you do?
I served on a classified mission in Vietnam.
How are you #StillServing?
It is my hope that my book will help those veterans that are suffering from PTSD (A Soldier’s Heart ) as well as their spouses who want to know how to help their veteran and how to survive the experience. For those in search of a different perspective on the ghastliness of that complex war, this memoir is an instructive and affecting remembrance. It is my hope that it will help to inform people that wars are seldom the solution to long-term peace.
I, along with my wife, Sandy, have created the Gauvin Lighthouse Fund and the Gauvin Family Scholarship. Currently, we are co-founders of Aroostook Aspirations Initiative, a nonprofit that helps first-generation students complete a college education and move into a successful career.
Why do you do it?
It was important for me to illustrate the effects of PTSD on those veterans and all who are connected to that veteran. It is my hope that this book will help those veterans that are suffering from PTSD (A Soldier’s Heart ) as well as their spouses who want to know how to help their veteran and how to survive the experience.
I also want to help young people who need help in being able to attend and succeed in college. If it weren’t for the mentors I had as a child, I would not have been able to get a post-secondary education, become a successful businessman, and be able to give back to the community that raised me.
