Where did you serve and what did you do?
I Corp 14th CMBT ENG 67-68 TET Building what we called HWY 1 from the DMZ down to Da Nang and roads heading inland to the mountains. I was a Light & Heavy Equipment Mechanic in the motor pool along with driving a fuel truck out to job sites to keep the heavy equipment running … a lot of field fixes and near misses by snippers, sappers, bug, snakes, a Tiger and sometimes even our own men.

I’ve had my registered service dog (A Borzoi) for 8 years, We started our training 6 years ago … Along with she sleeps with me, she can tell when I’m not doing well both mental or physical like when I forget to eat and my blood sugar drops she’ll nudge me with that long nose of hers. In crowds she sets up that comfort zone I need and even at the dog park I can’t get her to leave my side to go play … I trust and love her so much.
Why do you do it?
I was really on a bad road, drinking and drugs and not taking good care of myself. Heart problems and Diabetic and sometimes dizzy I can grab her harness for balance … I rescued her and she’s rescued me … Just caring for her gave me meaning back in my life.
