Persian Gulf War, U.S. Navy & Iraq Freedom, U.S. Army. I have been Post Commander from 2019 – 2021, I serve on the Post color guard (Post 286 Wabash, IN.) I serve as a Church Elder at Dora Christian Church, Lagro, IN. I raised & trained my therapy dog, we have done over 400 documented therapy visits, besides he has been a great help to when I need therapy & emotional support.
Tell us how your dog is helping you continue #StillServing in your community.
My therapy dog Sarg and I have been doing visits for 7 years before the pandemic we visited the V.A. Hospital, Marion, IN. campus, in addition to visits to veterans in local nursing homes in Wabash, and Huntington, IN, we visit Hospice patients in Huntington & Wabash, IN, we also do Veteran Honor ceremony (called pinning) for Parkview Hospital, Hospice program in Huntington & Wabash, IN areas.
Why do you do it?
After my last deployment, I ended up 100% disabled due service connecter injuries, I had my 20 years in, and I was forced to retire. I needed to give more to my community, After talking to a friend of mine he suggested I try doing visits at the V.A. with a therapy dog, (He and his wife have 7 therapy dogs, & are breeders as well), It has given me so much satisfaction I think I get more from our visits then the patients we visits.
