Where did you serve and what did you do?
Shenna served on active duty as a Paralegal in the US Army from 2003 to 2008. She was stationed in South Korea, Fort Riley KS, and served a 15-month tour in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom where she received the Combat Action Badge when her convoy was hit with an IED.
How are you #StillServing?
Shenna is the first female commander of VFW Post 8273 Frisco TX since its charter date of January 26th, 1968. She was recently elected to her 3rd term and will serve as commander until May 30, 2022. Since being elected she has grown the post membership from approximately 90 members to now over 260 members, all without having the luxury of a post home or being near an active military installation.
She has been instrumental in creating opportunities for our post to be partners with businesses and individuals in the community, coordinating new events to raise awareness of our veterans in need, and increasing our fundraising abilities.
Most recently our Post celebrated local Vietnam Veterans Day by hosting a welcome home event that drew approximately 400 attendees that included well over 100 Vietnam veterans. This event had a MOH recipient Retired Major General James Livingston from South Carolina as the keynote address and included local organizations and businesses in the lobby area. She was also able to bring in the world-famous Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders for pictures and autographs as well as coordinating an authentic Vietnam Huey Helicopter to land at the venue and display during the event.
She is often asked to speak and attend functions around the community and is a well-known leader and advocate for all things Veteran related.
Why do you do it?
I believe she would say she does it because she is truly appreciative of all veteran service and that we are able to do it together (I’m her husband and a VFW life member as well). I can personally vouch that she goes above and beyond to serve our Veteran community and am confident that you would find many others in the community that will echo that. I also firmly believe she does it because she has a passion for it and has committed to serve our Veterans in and around Frisco.
