Where did you serve and what did you do?
I earned my eligibility to join the VFW in December 1976 when I reported for duty at C Co 1st Bn 9th Inf, 2nd ID at Camp Hovey and the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) Korea. I served in the Korean DMZ 17 June – 31 Aug 77. I was the Operations NCO for C 1/9 Inf.
How are you #StillServing?
I have been active in the VFW since Feb 1996. My VFW Post is 10281 located in Vine Grove, KY. I am currently a Silver Legacy Life Member. I helped our Post this past summer with the Annual Kid’s Fishing Derby on a lake on Fort Knox. I am also serving as a Senior Vice Commander for the Fourth District here in KY. I am our Post and District Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen Programs.
Why do you do it?
I am a dedicated member of this organization. I don’t just go to the VFW Post and hang out. I am a person who recruits new people and I still have connections with the Fort Knox community which is five miles from my home. I want our organization at all level to grow even more. The smaller our membership the smaller the voice we have with veteran entitlements. Our VFW Post supports the local Veterans Cemetery. Especially, those homeless veterans who occasionally are buried without family members present.
