Where did you serve and what did you do?
My fiance Daniel was in the Air Force as well as the Army. He was CID.
How are you #StillServing?
I have been trying to help Daniel promote and build his budding nonprofit organization, Project Explore Corp.
Daniel is an Army veteran, and in the past recent years, he has developed a passion for sailing. He realized that sailing and working on refitting the boat has been integral in helping him “treat” and manage his PTSD. Because of this, he started Project Explore Corp. to help other veterans & first responders with their mental health. Veterans and their families can learn about sailing and all the things that go along with maintaining and sailing a boat. He determined that if it has helped him, it may also help others.
I’m sure as you know, it is so challenging for a new nonprofit to find the support, volunteers, and funding needed to keep the operations running.
Why do you do it?
Doing our part to help others is just one small way we are trying to give back to our treasured veterans and to the community. Daniel’s mission, and the mission of Project Explore Corp., is to provide sailing therapy to veterans and first responders suffering from PTSD. Even though it has been years since he has served, the weight of PTSD is still with him today, and he knows how important it is to diminish its effects.
Daniel wants to continue to serve in the capacity that he is able. Because his passion now is sailing, he wishes to use that as a medium to help other veterans with mental health issues.
We hope that his story will reach as many people as possible and help as many veterans as possible.
