‘They’re Helping Themselves and Our Community’

Tiffany Daniel and other members of VFW Post 7461 work with several community partners to continue Still Serving in meaningful ways.

“We work with the local church, partner with area nonprofits, and support a shelter called Promise Landing Horse Therapy,” she said.

The Post’s main focus is combatting food insecurity.

“We work with a food bank, serve hot meals, and bag food for those in need,” Daniel said. “We also garden with Melwood.”

A nonprofit organization located in Maryland, Melwood Community Service’s Learning Garden offers a seasonal gardening program as part of their mission to empower children, youth and adults with disabilities to live, work, and thrive in their communities.

Daniel explained how gardening helps both the community and the Post members.

“Our veterans are learning how to harvest and grow food and how to be sustainable, which is therapeutic for them and their spouses,” she said. “It makes me proud because they’re helping themselves and our community.”
