Capture the Best Shots

A few ideas for getting the best photos from your Day of Service initiative.
Designate a Photographer. Give them a shot list of the photos you want of the event.
Get in Close. Focus in on faces and capture the emotion and excitement of the event.
Capture the Action. A posed photo can work, but a candid shot when the action is happening will really capture what’s going on.
Get Names. Make sure your photographer has a small notebook and pen on hand to write down the names of who, left to right, is in your photos for use in captions and news stories.
Use Photo Releases. It is required to have a release from parents/guardians of minors (under age 18) and a best practice to have permission of adults to use photographs in which they are featured.
Use Our Hashtag. When it is time to share your photos, including #VFWDayofService will increase your visibility and connect you to all other users participating in Day of Service online. You can also look up #VFWDayofService on any social media platform to see photos from other events around the nation and gather more ideas.
