Where did you serve and what did you do?

In 2010, I commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army as a Medical Service Corps Officer and selected to serve in a combat arms unit under the Department of Defense’s Women in the Service Review initiative by deploying to Afghanistan with 4-320 FAR, 101st ASSLT DIV. I was then sent to be the hospital Adjutant at Carl R. Darnall Medical Center. By 2017, I had reached the rank of captain and I was the 2nd Brigade, 1st CAV Div. Brigade Medical Operarions Officer. At that time I felt a calling to serve in a different way. I decided to transition out of the Army and advance my professional studies in the mental health field.

How are you Still Serving?

I am currently serving as the VFW Texas District 20 Adjutant and Women Veteran Chair. I am my post adjutant as well. I am currently running for District Jr advice Commander. And as the District Women Veteran Chairperson for VFW Texas District 20, I create a quarterly report that highlights opportunities for growth, connection, and celebration among women veterans in Bexar, Wilson, and Atascosa counties. Why do you do it?

My goal when I transitioned out of the military was and still is, to support others veterans in taking charge of their lives post service. I continue to help others in many other ways; ways that I didn’t even knew it was possible. I do it because I like helping people and saving lives.
