How are you Still Serving?

Bill Hohmann is a life member of the Potosi VFW Post 5276 and he had held several positions, appointed and elected since he had joined the VFW over 25 years ago. He is serving as the Post’s Junior Vice Commander currently. He had taken on different projects in the past year in 2024. He helped with a couple of fundraisers for supporting our community (i.e. supporting school scholarship, Voice of Democracy, Patriot’s Pen, Veterans Military Support, Village Hall, Hickory Hill Park). He participates with the Potosi schools for the Veterans’ Day Programs by being part of the Honor Guard. Bill has shed awareness to the community by assisting to have a Veteran’s annual banquet for the Veterans, Teacher of the Year, Voice of Democracy, Patriot’s Pen, EMT and Firefighter of the Year. He partakes in the Memorial Day Ceremony, Potosi Football games and Potosi/Kieler Parades as part of the Honor Guard detail. He partakes in the majority of honoring our fallen comrades by helping with funeral honors. He takes pride in maintaining and cleaning all of the Post weapons for the Post Honor Guard. Bill in turn, took his pride of the Post and trained two other Post officers on how to take care of the weapons. Bill also, takes pride in his community by taking care of the Hickory Hill Park Memorial by cleaning up any trash, cutting back hedges, replacing mulch, replacing the American Flag if needed, pulling weeds and any other maintenance needed to beautify the area. He takes ‘Pride and Professionalism’ to the next level. He continues to strive to uphold the Post to be there for the community by helping those needing help and in telling his and our story. He continues to promote the VFW programs and speak to others to encourage them into becoming a member with his pride showing above all.

Why do you do it?

Bill supports and does all these things for his community and Post because he really likes doing it. He does all these things to help others without him wanting or expecting to be recognized. He loves to help and train other Veterans because he says without hesitation, “they deserve and earned it!”. He loves getting involved within the community by showing that people thy can make a difference in what they do within their community. He really shows that he enjoys giving back to the Post and the community.
