Where did you serve and what did you do?
US Air Force 3-1-1966 to 11-30-1987. Air Traffic Controller 22 months in Vietnam
How are you Still Serving?
On June 4th I delivered to the Myrtle Beach VA Clinic $695 in food, clothes and puzzles. The food will go to their United to Combat Hunger Food Bank. The clothes will be used for helping veterans who need them and the puzzles will be used by the Clinic’s Veteran Support group & Individual therapy programs. The clinic feeds/supports, at times, upwards of 100 veterans a month and they include individuals, some families and homeless veterans. This food assistance goes to veterans in the Myrtle Beach area through the clinic’s Curbside Delivery Program. As you know, VA Hospitals and Clinics cannot provide all the things necessary to help veterans. They rely on donations, like mine. My food contribution came mostly from a donation from our post, the clothes came from a donation by our post auxiliary and a donation from my wife and I, and the puzzles came from my community (Country Lakes Adult Living). The donations I spearhead come from a specific request, for specific items, by the VA Clinic’s manager of these programs. She will send me a specific needs list and I go out and get those needs (there are several other individuals, groups and organizations that support the Myrtle Beach Clinic. I am just one of them). Pictured is me making delivery of the above listed items to Mrs Anderson, the Clinic’s Volunteer Services Manager. I am holding one of the puzzles and she is holding an item of clothing
Why do you do it?
Because there is a need and I am fortunate enough to be able to help fill that need locally with the help of my post and my friends
