How are you Still Serving?

I function as the SCVFW and Post 10804 VAVS representative to the Myrtle Beach VA Clinic. In this capacity I primarily work with the Clinic’s Food Bank and their Uniting to Combat Hunger food programs for area veterans and their families in need of such help. For the most part, I provide food, clothing, and personal hygiene items. When the Volunteer Services/Food Bank Manager has a specific need, she contacts me with a list of needed items. I then go out and find the money, or donations and purchase the requested items (many times the money comes from our Post Relief Fund). I recently secured a VFW Grant to support the Clinic’s food bank (this was previously documented). The local Humana Group got wind of this project, contacted our post and provided a $400 grant to purchase food items for the Clinic’s Food Bank. That money was put at my disposal. I contacted the VA Clinic Food Bank Manager (Mrs. Anderson) and she sent me a list of food and personal hygiene item needs. The picture is of Post 10804 Commander Bob Sedelow, the VA Clinic’s Food Bank Manager Mrs. Anderson and me, Bill La Monte delivering $427 worth of requested items to Mrs. Anderson on January 15th. The Myrtle Beach VA Clinic is fortunate to have many other groups and organizations that provide assistance to the clinic on a regular basis. Me and Post 10804 are just a part of that group that want to help area veterans.

Why do you do it?

I know there are many less-fortunate veterans out there and I just want to do my part in helping make their life a little easier.
