North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Where did you serve and what did you do?

USAF 03/01/1966 to 11/30/1987. Air Traffic Control (27290) 22 months in Vietnam

How are you Still Serving?

Back in late May, VA Hospitals and Clinics in S.C. were holding a 2.5K run/walk to raise monies and donations for their various programs that help veterans in need and homeless veterans. As is our custom, the Myrtle Beach VA Clinic Volunteer Services Manager contacted me looking to me for some Post 10804 assistance in supporting this effort. As usual, she provided me with a specific list of needs that included food items, clothes and personal hygiene items. With the help of the Post, my friend who is a Post Auxiliary member and founder of a non-profit (Bonnie’s Coats for Kids and Veterans) that provides for veterans in need, a friend who is a Navy veteran and owns her own company in Norfolk VA (ShipShape), I was able to fill most of the list provided to me by the VA Clinic. In all, we contributed $672 in food, clothing and personal hygiene items. The picture shows me and the VA Clinic’s Mrs. Anderson holding up some of the requested clothing items.

Why do you do it?

I know there is a need. I know the VA is not funded for many of the things their Hospitals and Clinic’s do to help less fortunate veterans. I know that through the VA Clinic programs I work towards supporting, the VFW/my Post can do a great deal in helping veterans in need.
