How are you Still Serving?

For one day each year VA hospitals and clinics hold “Standdown’s” to provide goods and services directly to homeless veterans and those veterans possibly on the verge of becoming homeless. This year was no different for the Myrtle Beach VA Clinic and their annual “Standdown” which was held om Friday, October 17th at the Myrtle Beach Veterans Cafe parking lot. More than 25 vendors and services providers supported the 173 area veterans who took advantage of this event to help improve their lot in life. One of these vendors was North Myrtle Beach VFW Post 10804 and Auxiliary. The Post and Auxiliary gave away over $1,300 in food, hygiene kits and goods to our fellow veterans. One thing the VA Clinic asked for this year was Safety Vests and Safety Items for the many veterans who use bicycles or scooters for their main means of transportation. Along with food, clothing and hygiene items, Post 10804 provided 45 reflective safety vests, 25 bicycle safety kits (each kit contained 2 reflective safety disks and 2 strips of reflective tape) and 30 strips of reflective tape. Every piece of these safety items was gone within the first 2 hours of the event. Post 10804 and Auxiliary have been active supporters of this event for the last several years. Why do you do it?

I am the Post 10804 organizer for this event. The post does a great job in helping me help those veterans that need help. As I have said many times, in answering this question. Because I know there are veterans out there in need and I have the ability and opportunity to help them., so I am going to do my small part as long as I am able. “Veterans Helping Veterans”! That’s what its all about.
