How are you Still Serving?

I do historical presentations of New Bern, N.C. – and also including the battlefield area of our VFW Post 2514 called Fort Dixie, and it’s role in the Battle for New Bern, Mar. 14, 1862. U.S. Marines landed on the grounds of Fort Dixie to plant the first American Flag in that March 14th battle. The significance of that project has inspired a Scout Troop to fundraise for a Memorial Fire Pit with Bricks for Service Members, and a large Flag Pole. The Scouts have the Memorial Pit constructed with and the Flag Pole and historic marker illustrating the Marine landing, planting of flag, and the Story of Fort Dixie.

Why do you do it?

I was a history major at Old Dominion, in Norfolk before going in the military and have been an avid reader of history since high school.
