Where did you serve and what did you do?
I was in US Army. I served for 5 years where I was Paratrooper Infantryman. I was in the 82nd Airborne Division and 3rd Infantry Division. I was deployed in Iraq where I got hurt. Being in the service was what I wanted all my life. I always wanted since 9/11 to serve my country in a possible way. True patriotism comes from those that desire to live for their country.
Tell us how your dog is helping you continue Still Serving in your community.
From injuries in the service, I developed TBI epilepsy and have gotten to the point where I have seizures from overheating. I also have PTSD from Iraq. My service dog Bella, is more than just my dog. She motivates me to keep pushing forward. She helps detect before I have a seizure. She knows when I am having a off day. She always finds a way to keep me smiling. I take Bella out with me when I am doing volunteer work in my community. She loves going to the school events, like Halloween trunk a treats. She loves to watch the kids come by in their outfits and get candy. Bella is a friend that I can depend on and know that I can stayed motivated to serve as long as she is by my side.
Why do you do it?
I still serve because I needed a purpose to fulfill after I got out the service. I am now the Commander of VfW Post 5669. This position keeps me always on the go to help keep serving others. Taking Bella with me to meet other veterans, going to community events is what keeps me desiring to do more.
