Where did you serve and what did you do?

I worked at My Service Dogs Place as the earlier kennel master and am currently expanding my responsibilities. I am a lifetime VFW Auxiliary member with 26 years of service, and my family includes both retired and active-duty military. I care for service dogs when their handlers are unavailable due to treatment or hospitalization.

How are you Still Serving?

My service dog aids other service dogs who are temporarily separated from their owners, helping them adjust and avoid issues like depression, withdrawal, or separation anxiety. Georgia Belle and I support incoming service dogs for veterans, promoting their health and well-being. As veterans recover, supporting the training of service dogs gives me a deep sense of purpose and satisfaction. Georgia Belle, my service dog, participates in local VFW events and ceremonies, bringing comfort and enjoyment to veterans and their families.

Why do you do it?

There is an urgent need to support veterans who experience trauma due to their service. Many hesitate to seek help, fearing their service animals will be surrendered or euthanized by local shelters. We collaborate with police and hospitals to prevent this and ensure veterans receive the help they deserve.
