River, my Belgian Malinois, joins me at all our meetings where she not just helps me, but any veteran in the room that wants to spend time with her. She allows me far more breadth and width for what I can do comfortably than I ever did without her; I self-trained her and she is Canine Good Citizen certified (AKC). She is an absolute blessing and a joy to watch playing frisbee, which she lives for.
Why do you do it?
I lost my big brother suddenly last year and the local Honor Guard showed up with less than 24 hours notice to do his funerary rites. It moved me so much that I immediately joined my local VFW and Legion, and now assist with that solemn and righteous duty.
