Disabled Vietnam-era Veteran rated 80% Service-Connected by the Veterans Benefits Administration. I began serving my fellow veterans decades ago, both working for various departments of the VA Department of Veterans Affairs: National Cemetery Administration in St. Louis, MO. Program Support Assistant – nearly ten years and retiring in two days. Veterans Benefits Administration in St. Louis, MO. Legal Administrative Specialist and US Social Security Admin. Disability and Adjudication Review Paralegal AND * National Cemetery Administration Jefferson Barracks Cemetery St. Louis Volunteer * VA Jefferson Barracks Medical Center and Volunteer Services Office Volunteer and * VA Jefferson Barracks Medical Center Office of Regional Council Volunteer.

How are you Still Serving?

Retiring from employment with the VA. Returning to volunteering with the VA Jefferson Barracks Medical Center in St. Louis. Over the past few days, I have been reaching out to local Veteran Service Offices and Veterans Organizations locally recently offering to volunteer part-time. VFW Service Officer at VA JB MC St. Louis responded and has welcomed me as a new volunteer. This VFW Service Office is located some twenty minutes from my home. Currently, VA JB MC VWF Service Office and Volunteer Service Office are working together to re-establish my Volunteer status and determine my part-time assignments. Still Serving as a VFW Volunteer at the VA JB Volunteer Services Office and the VA JB VFW Service Office. Serving my fellow veterans and their family members.

Why do you do it?

Answer: It is my lifelong duty. I postponed my higher education to enlist in the US Army at a time when our nation was in turmoil. News reports constantly noted that many students were fleeing to Canada to avoid the draft and others were burning American flags. It was my duty to help my country at a time of need. I have been helping grieving Veterans and their family members for over a decade with the US NCA. I don’t know why. But I feel obligated and honored to still be allowed to serve VFW, especially at my age with my level of service-connected disabilities.
