Where did you serve and what did you do?

Graduated from the Brainerd, MN, High School in 1967 and went into the Army the same year with a Military Occupational Specialty of 11B4P [Light Weapons Infantry]. Served in Vietnam 1968-69 as a sergeant E5 with 2/17 Cavalry, 101st Airborne. On return to the United States, was assigned to Co. B [Ranger] 75th Infantry.

How are you Still Serving?

Worked as a UPS driver until retirement. Became active with the Brainerd VFW, Post 1647, in 2005 and served as Post commander 2008 – 2009, then as Senior Vice Commander until 2022. Commander of the Brainerd Honor Guard and local coordinator for the Veterans on the Hill annual visit to to the Minnesota Capital in St. Paul where veterans lobby legislators for veteran friendly legislation. As a VA volunteer, put on over 100,000 miles driving veterans to medical appointments. More than 8000 hours of volunteer time. Was named the Brainerd Community Member of the Month in 2019 and was given the Service Above Self Award by Brainerd Rotary in September 2023. https://www.brainerdvfw.org/dave-meyer.html

Why do you do it?

To help veterans and the community.
