Francis

Rigby, Idaho

Where did you serve and what did you do?

I served in the US Navy as a Second Class Petty Officer from 1960-1967. I was an Aviation Machinist Mate (Jet Mechanic) at NWEF Albuquerque N. M., VF-91 at Miramar NAS and aboard the USS Ranger, VF-162 at Miramar and aboard the USS Oriskany. Served deployments to Laos and Viet Nam. My last duty station was VR-8 at Moffet Field in Calif.

How are you Still Serving?

VFW Post 1004 as Jr. Vice, Sr. Vice and now Quartermaster since 2007. Also have worked at the Ririe, Idaho Sr. Center food bank since 2009 and driven semi-trucks for the annual fall harvest at a church farm here for the past 5 years. I have a heated shop where I do mechanical work including welding for neighbors and friends.

Why do you do it?

I live in Idaho where people and living are the greatest. Although I went through the Vietnam protest rejections on the West Coast I have found Idaho to be a far better place. I have been given much throughout my life and, although I am 79 years old, I am in pretty good shape and will give back to my country and friends as long as I possibly can.
