Where did you serve and what did you do?
Korea Defense I was in Signal at that time we put up a 10 foot satellite dish up in the air sometimes I think about 90’ and sometimes we put two up and operated as a relay.
Tell us how you’re giving back to your community.
Well the most recent thing I did was gift a vehicle to a Veteran who was in need of one. I’m not tooting my own horn about it. Honestly I was planning to haul it it off for scrap metal, was tired of weed eating, mowing around it, tired of insuring and tagging it, ironically I just had put a brand new set of tires on it and it had less than 130 miles on them. I had filled it up with gasoline not 9.2 miles, came home parked it and it wouldn’t crank back. Anyways, the Veterans Service Officer is a good friend of mine he calls me up says we have a Veteran in need and just so happens he is a mechanic so the VSO gives me the Veterans Name and phone #. We make plans for him to come over and check the vehicle out to see if it’s worth messing with because scrap dogs is closer and I’d be willing to just toe it to scrap dogs and give him the money to go on a better vehicle. I wound up paying a wrecker $125.00 to tow it to the veterans house. In the conversation we were having I found out I was actually talking to him on his wife’s phone. He had broken his and he no longer had one for himself, so I just so happened to have an iPhone 5 laying around I also was tired of charging up. I was keeping it in case this one tore up or Sharon’s before we were ready to upgrade. I can’t speak for Sharon, but quite frankly I’m still not ready to upgrade. I kinda wanna go back to a phone attached to the wall, seems like this one is attached to the charger quite often well twice a day I know 🤕
Why do you do it?
Actually that was just the most recent thing I could think of, and honestly I didn’t have that veterans permission to share what I had done for him. Honestly I do NOT like sharing the things I do, or tooting my own horn especially in this case because ironically enough exactly what I was concerned would happen did happen to another Veteran friend of mine found out about it, and it was like why didn’t you give it to me. But more importantly and again I’m always willing to give the shirt right off my back to another Veteran who is struggling, because I’ve walked that mile myself, I can remember a time when I myself didn’t know where my next meal would come from or how I was gonna pay my light bill, and I remember how difficult it was to humble myself to ask for help, or even a discount. Now I get upset if I ask for one and they tell me only if Your in uniform or only for Veterans Day. Ironically enough I wind up giving that discount to my server as a tip, I always wait til the server brings me the bill, I figure up the tip, on the bill before I ask for the discount then when the server comes back with the discounted price I give her what it was before the discount in cash, so the server is actually getting a generous tip plus my discount because I know so many people won’t tip. Again none of the things I do, I do them for any atta boys or pats on the backs. I do the things I do because I was once in their shoes, and most importantly it feels like I’m taking away from doing the thing I done if I’m bragging about it or getting an award ( patch ) for it 🤔. At any rate my apologies for the lengthy conversation feel free to edit ✍️ any of them or not publish them at all. And remember this whatever you do for your Brother you also will have done for our savior and that’s not why I do what I do but that truly is when I want to be rewarded 😎
